That is my latest experience I got when I perform the tiny speech in Saturday Toastmaster Club.

Before I move on, I love public speaking not to boost my ego but the opposite. The higher you get, the more gentle you should be. (and yes, improve my English language since I am not the native speaker.)

Most of the speeches have been prepared. I knew that they were nearly perfect since I had the script. What I had to do was just to memorise all words in it, practice vocal variety and perform it on the stage.

However, the latest speech i just did last Saturday….I did not have the script. All I had was just the few slides as if it is the outline. To be honest..I am lazy. (laugh)

However, that speech becomes one of the speeches I really love. When I show my slides, one of the audiences turned the light off (so that people could see them more clearly) but I just felt that the room was too dark..

“Hey, Satoshi. I am trying to enlighten audience but you just darken the room off.”

Everyone laughs.

“When I put this picture and I told that I will not talk about Politics because you guys can open television every Friday on 5 PM. This gentleman will promise that he will return you happiness” (There is the Thai cabinet’s propaganda to return happiness since coup de’tat last year)

Everyone laughs.

What happened..these are not in my scripts!

Therefore, I write this post to confirm you something. It is the priceless lesson that you should not prepare any answers. Yes, I know. If you don’t do it, you will feel uncertain. You worry that your answers will not be perfect. However, if you know all answer in this world, you will not be able to grow up. If you know everything that will happen to you, you cannot grow up. I can confirm this lesson. If I follow the script, there will be no laughing. My speech might be perfect but it will be boring without humour.

Allow yourself to know nothing and know the current moment. This moment is the best to make yourself and people happy.

  1. I also tended to be as best prepared as possible. Had a script preparede interview answers… But for some years I did not do it. When we speak spontaneously our words have more power and most of all we use the words which are needed in the that very moment and not when we prepared the script!
